Indira Sagar (Narmada Sagar) project is a multipurpose river valley project in the state of Madhya Pradesh, in the central part of India.
The project consists ofa solid concrete gravity Dam of 623 M length and 92M height, a power house on the right bank with installed capacity of 1000 MW (8 units of 125 MW each), a main irrigation canal having a length of 249 Kms with a flow of 160 cumecs and a lift canal having a length of 83 Kms with a flow of 31 cumecs.
The tail race channel is approx. 1000 M long from centre line of power house. Works executed under this contract were for 690 M length. The tail race channel was formed by blasting and excavation hard rock from ground level. The maximum depth of excavation was 38 M varying from EL. 213 M to EL. 175 M. Berms were provided at 10 M depths. The slopes were strengthened by rock bolts, anchor rods and shotcrete. Large scale dewatei1ng and desilting was done after monsoons and before the start of each working season.
